Kerri Schommer
There is a very long list of reasons that I came to CutThroat. However I think the driving force has been my health. I will be the big 5-0 in July. When you have that staring you in the face you realize you better get your act together while you still have a chance! I don’t want to work all of these years so I can retire to my couch. I want to travel and be active and if I don’t take care of myself that won’t happen. I work as a home health RN and let me tell you your lifestyle choices will catch up with you! Here is a quote from one of my patients “Kerri use your legs while you still have them.” He has a horrible disease. Often I remember him saying that on the days I feel lazy. My patients have kept me motivated.
My first impression before I came to CrossFit was… “how am I going to fit in here?” Well surprise, surprise…. I fit in! There are so many shapes, sizes and ages here it’s not what you think of when you think of CrossFit. I think Brian described it well the other night at Friday Night Lights “guys the CrossFit games is the NFL- we are a backyard football game.” Their coaching is excellent and I have NEVER hurt myself. I have made huge progress in my humble opinion.
I have had so many bright spots since I have started it’s hard to count just one! The best part about CrossFit is you have several bright spots a week. I am constantly being able to do something I couldn’t do the week before. This week it was lifting 135# deadlifts not once but 11 times after I completed the “Diane” workout! I have had inches lost bright spots, endurance bright spots, balance bright spots the list just goes on and on.
I am currently working on figuring out my diet. I have completely transformed my diet, but I find it to be a challenge to make sure you are losing fat and not muscle. So I will be working on that. I am also hoping to work in the barbell club more to improve my technique.
I have so many great memories already. My favorite so far though is the Friday Night Lights series and all of the people I have met. It’s great to meet other people who are interested in working out hard. I am looking forward to spending many years at CutThroat.
